Before becoming a freelance writer, he was a business and technology reporter for CNET News.com, where he covered some of tech’s biggest players, including Microsoft, Oracle and Cisco Systems. At CNET, he won a national award for investigative reporting by the Society of Professional Journalists and was nominated for a Gerald Loeb Award for Distinguished Business and Financial Journalism.
Wylie is co-author of “Giants: Where Have You Gone,” a where-are-they-now book on former San Francisco Giants players that was published by Sports Publishing in 2005. A newly updated and revised edition of the book was published in May 2013.
In March 2007, Wylie launched the Giants Talk blog for the San Jose Mercury News, where he wrote analysis on breaking news two to four times a week during the 2007 and 2008 seasons. He built a readership, fostered community and discussion and wrote the occasional humor piece. (They were a losing team and were often in last place, after all.) Here’s an archive of posts.
Wylie previously worked for two other tech publications — Computerworld and CRN. Before that, he was a reporter for several daily newspapers in the West Coast, including the Contra Costa Times newspaper chain, where he covered the city of Berkeley, UC-Berkeley and environmental and Asian American issues.
He also previously co-founded and edited Blast: the Irreverent Webzine, an online magazine with a heavy bent on humor and Asian American issues.
